Making scenes more physical, visually engaging, and theatrical

There is so much more to improv than standing around saying funny things to one another. What does your placement on the stage say about you and your role in the current scene? How can we learn to enrich our scenes by drawing from other skills like film, painting and animation? What does it take to create moments that make your audience want to jump out of their seats?

In this course, you will learn how to make your improv more dynamic, varied and interesting to look at. We’re going to experiment with staging, dramaturgy, playing larger characters, scene direction– all while learning practical tips and playing a ton of fun improv scenes along the way.

Who this course is for

This course is intended for experienced improvisers who want to enrich their scenes with other theatrical skills besides playing “talking heads”. You should have completed at least four improv courses  This course is not suitable for beginners.

About the teacher

Sjoerd Provoost is a professional improv performer and teacher with a strong background in visual media and design. With a focus on high energy and playfulness, he loves to make improv as fun and accessible as possible to all. On weekdays, he can be found playing and presenting improv shows at schools, companies and theatres around the Netherlands.

Course details

Location: Buurtcentrum Rosa, Malakkastraat 6 Utrecht. Room 2.
Schedule: Mondays 19:30-21:30. Starting 28 Sept 2026
Nine sessions in total, consisting of eight lessons and one show.
