Intermediate Improv Course: Time Well Wasted with Emma Holmes

Intermediate Improv Course
Time Well Wasted
with Emma Holmes

Time Well Wasted is an intermediate improv course for players who want to deepen their scene work while enjoying a strong sense of group connection. This course focuses on creating meaningful scenes through better listening, stronger relationships, and clearer storytelling, while keeping playfulness at the heart of the work.

Throughout the course, you will expand your improv toolbox with scene based and short form games that encourage emotional truth and relatable characters. You will learn how to let humour arise naturally from the story, rather than forcing jokes, and how to find the game within a scene by staying present and responsive.

There is particular attention on becoming a generous and enjoyable scene partner. You will practise active listening, supporting offers, and making your fellow players look good. By embracing silliness and stepping outside your comfort zone without fear of failure, you will build confidence and freedom on stage.

You will also work on story structure and long term scene development, helping you create scenes that feel layered and complete. As a group, you will prepare for a show in April, bringing together everything you have learned in front of an audience.

This group is known for being socially active and supportive, making it a great environment if you value both artistic growth and connection with others.

Who is this for?

This course is for intermediate players who have completed at least two improv courses and performed in at least one show. You are ready to deepen your scene work and explore more nuance in character, emotion, and story.

About the teacher

Emma Holmes specialises in improv, stand up comedy, and storytelling. She has a keen sense for how strong scenes are built through cooperation rather than performance pressure. In her teaching, you will learn that you do not need to try to be funny for scenes to work. Instead, humour naturally emerges from clear relationships and honest choices.

Emma encourages players to embrace play, take risks, and explore vulnerability without fear of getting it wrong. Her classes also develop skills that extend beyond the stage, such as presentation skills, presence, and confident communication.
